Comfort Foods

I know it's dinner time (where I live anyway) but nonetheless, here I am eating rye toast with a ham and 3-cheese omelette (fyi: the dictionary embedded in my browser did not recognize the word 'omelette' as a word...).  Why may you ask? It's on my list of comfort foods.  Comfort foods, for those of you who may not know (what rock have you been hiding under?!) are those you eat when you're feeling out of sorts and need something that just feels good in your stomach; it tastes good, you don't feel guilty about eating it, and it makes you feel at least minimally better.

My list of comfort foods includes:

  • omelettes
  • candied yams with brown sugar and pecans on top
  • hot oatmeal with brown sugar
  • kalasha (a 'poor Ukrainian man's' food made with cornmeal ---> don't knock it til you've tried it)
  • eggs benedict
  • chocolate
  • homemade stew
  • beef and barley soup
  • rye toast with butter
  • hot chai
  • hot earl grey vanilla tea
Wow...apparently it's quite a list (I didn't draft this out before I wrote it).  So in essence, bring me any of these foods/drinks and you'll more than likely be forgiven for any wrong-doing or you'll get my undivided attention.  These are the foods/drinks I live on during high-stress periods such as exams or evaluations or any other situation which causes me to go into ultra-high alert mode.   Now obviously none of these are particularly healthy, in fact some of them you might as well just lather onto my thighs, but when I'm strung out, I normally don't eat anything, which is also bad (especially considering I have a seizure disorder triggered by low blood pressure/blood sugar) so guaranteed if I'm brought these foods, they will be eaten and the world will be a much happier place.

Does anyone else have some favourite comfort foods they're willing to share? I'd love to hear about them :-)
